Griffith's Valuation for County MayoGriffith's Valuation was compiled in the mid 1800s in response to complaints about the unfair application of the tithe applotment. With this valuation, all property in Ireland was to be evaluated on a fair and consistent basis, and those valuations were consequently used in assessing property based taxes. In addition to the location, value and size of each property, these records include the name of the 'occupant' and 'immediate lessor' -- that is, the person who farmed or occupied the land, and the person he rented from. The links below lead to indexes to that portion of Griffith's Valuation covering the County of Mayo. You should find the names you are looking for in the Index to Surnames for these records first, then select the correct pages from the indexes listed below.
These links will take you to more detailed descriptions. |
