PUBLIC RECORDS OF THE COLONY OF CONNECTICUT, VOLUME I. Edited by J.
Hammond Trumbull. 604 pages, indexed. Originally published at
Hartford, 1850.
This volume includes Connecticut court records from 1636 to 1665,
and copies of wills and inventories from 1640 to 1649. There are
many thousands of persons mentioned, and a convenient index allows
them to be easily found. As was usual in such early court records,
a wide diversity of matters are included so that nearly everyone
was somehow involved -- complainant, defendant, witness or juror,
they are all mentioned here, often with the names of spouses,
children or friends included. The wills and inventories, like the
court records themselves, are transcribed in their entirety, not
just summarized or extracted.
