INDEX TO THE PREROGATIVE WILLS OF IRELAND 1536 -- 1810. Edited by Sir Arthur Vicars. 512 pages. Originally published at Dublin, Ireland 1897.

This very important reference work for Irish genealogists lists the full name, residence, title or occupation, and date of probate, for almost 40,000 names. It is a particularly important index for the Irish researcher because it serves as a guide to the names that can be found in Betham's Abstracts. The original wills were for the most part destroyed in the fire at the Public Records Office, but prior to that tragic event the genealogical information in the wills had been extracted by Betham, whose notes serve as one of the major sources for Irish genealogy. There are also genealogical pedigree charts available that were derived from Betham's notes, and added to by many other persons, in the Irish Genealogical Office. This index provides the key to that wealth of information.

This title is also available on CD as part of CD2.
