SLIGO AND THE ENNISKILLENERS FROM 1688 - 1691. By W. G. Wood--
Martin. Second Edition, 208 pages, published 1882 in Dublin.
This work traces the history of the Williamite Wars, with
particular reference to the part played by the residents of Sligo
and their allies and neighbors from Enniskillen. Of particular
interest to genealogists is a chapter outlining the social and
geographic circumstances prevailing at the time of these wars, and
the names of principal officers and local gentry, a list of
householders in Sligo town in 1663, lists of almost 400 persons who
served as Sherriffs or Parliament Members of County Sligo 1577 to
1880, as well as numerous claimants, landowners and leaseholders on
confiscated estates. This is a very useful work for an area and
time period for which records are scarce and hard to find.
