OLD COPP'S HILL, AND BURIAL GROUND; WITH HISTORICAL SKETCHES. By E.
MacDonald. 62 pages, index. Originally published 1896 at Boston.
Reproduced 1988.
Originally known as Milfield, or Windmill Hill, Copp's Hill was one
of the three hills on which the city of Boston was built. Property
in the vicinity was owned by William Copp in 1644, from whom the
place name was derived. This publication gives a brief history of
the locality, with emphasis on the prominent and historic buildings
in existence at the turn of the last century. Next, a history of
the cemetery is given, along with transcriptions of many of the
older stones, dating back to 1661. Some of the names found in the
cemetery include Copp, Rind, Mather, Seward, Lake, Upsall, Lucas,
Malcom, Dupee, Newman, Darling, Hawkins and others.
