It gives a very good picture of the lifestyle of the peasants of the area, and the conditions of hardship under which they lived. There are maps of Belmullet town, and the region as a whole. Anyone with ancestors in this remote part of Ireland should read this work to understand the economic and social conditions in the area just prior to the famine.
