GENEALOGY OF THE MORRIS FAMILY: DESCENDANTS OF THOMAS MORRIS OF
CONNECTICUT. By Lucy Ann (Morris) Carhart. 478 pages, originally
published by The A. S. Barnes Co. NY, 1911. Reproduced on four
microfiche, 1986.
Thomas MORRIS and his wife Elizabeth arrived in Boston in 1637.
They bought land near New Haven CT at what became known as Morris
Cove, and there raised a family of seven children. Although the
progenitor of this family lived the rest of his life in Connecticut
(he died in 1673) his descendants had spread through New Jersey,
New York, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania prior to 1800. By the mid
1800's they were to be found throughout New England and the
midwest, in Kentucky and Missouri, and as far away as California.
This book traces descendants in all lines, regardless of surname.
Some of the main surnames of allied families include: Barnes,
Beecher, Blakeslee, Bradley, Brockway, Camp, Clark, Cole, Collins,
Davenport, Dickson, Farnham, Fuller, Hart, Hatheway,
Heminway/Hemingway, Hitchcock, Holt, Hutchins, Jarvis, Keeler,
Kellogg, Kingsley, Loomis, Moulthrop, Nash, Phillips, Ray, Scott,
Smith, Street, Sway, Townsend, Whiton, Woodruff and Woodward.
