THE FAMILY OF BURNETT OF LEYS. By James Allardyce. 367 pages,
indexed. Originally published in 1901 at Aberdeen, Scotland.
Reproduced on six microfiche 1988.
This is a relatively scarce old genealogy, especially in this
country, as there were only 525 copies printed originally. It is
based on the manuscripts of George Burnett, Lyon King of Arms, and
so is extremely authoritative. The origins of the family are traced
back to the 12th century, and a wealth of early documentation is
preserved in these pages. An extensive appendix includes many
letters, inventories, and other documents pertaining to the Burnett
family. Some of the surnames listed in the index include Arbuthnot,
Bannerman, Barclay, Blackhall, Brown, Buchan, Campbell, Carnegie,
Chalmers, Charteris, Cockburn, Craig, Crawford, Cruickshank,
Cuming, Davidson, Douglas, Drummond, Dunbar, Duncan, Erskine,
Farquhar, Farquharson, Fleming, Forbes, Fraser, Garden, Gordon,
Graham, Hamilton, Hay, Henderson, Innes, Irvine, Jaffray, Johnston,
Keith, King, Kirkwood, Lauder, Leslie, Lindsay, Little, Lumsden,
Marischal, Maule, Meldrum, Menzies, Mitchell, Moir, Murray,
Nicolson, Pearson, Ramsay, Reid, Robertson, Scott, Senest, Seton,
Skene, Strachan, Stuart, Taylor, Walchope, Young, and many more.
