This genealogy is one of a small minority of such books to trace
the affairs of a southern line, the Lewis family of Virginia, and
their descendants moving westward along the southern states to
Missouri, Mississippi, and eventually further west. Some of the
progenitors whose lines are traced include John Lewos of Augusta
County, VA, (1678--1762); General Robert Lewos of Gloucester
County, VA, who came to America ca. 1650; and John Lewos Sr. of
Hanover County, VA, (ca. 1640--1726). Some allied lines include:
