This wonderful work extracts the O'Malley line of descent all the way from ADAM and EVE down 110 generations. The earliest parts of the lineage are derived from the Bible, the central part from Irish folklore and ancient manuscripts, while the more recent portions are derived from records available to the author. Also included is a poetic description of the meeting of Grace O'Malley, the 16th century "pirate queen" and Queen Elizabeth of England.
The O'Malley ancestry includes many illustrious ancestors, including kings of all Ireland, and princes and chieftains of the clan itself, a noted force in Connaught up until the 1600's. Like most of the prominent families of Ireland, they descend ultimately from Milesius, the Celtic warrior whose sons claimed Ireland as their Isle of Destiny. The line extends through Ugaine Mór, the 66th Monarch of all Ireland, whose dominion extended to all the islands of western Europe, and who married Caesair, daughter of the King of France, by whom he had 22 sons and three daughters! He was slain in B.C. 593 by Badhbhchadh. The line continues through Eochaidh Feidlioch (died B.C. 130), the 93rd Monarch of all Ireland, who erected the Royal Palace of Druin-na-n Druagh in Connaught, where his daughter Maedhbh reigned as Queen of the province. Also of this line was the famed Conn of the Hundred Battles who reigned as the 110th Monarch until slain in 157 A.D. after 35 years in power. Another of this line was Cormac Ulfhada, 115th Monarch -- "most learned and best of the Milesian race" whose treatise on Kingly Government is extant. After forty years reign he died from choking on a Salmon bone! There are stories of intrigue and betrayal here as well, as in the case of the children of Eochaidh Muigh-Meadhoin: his daughter Mong-Fionn murdered her brother Crimthann by poison, in hopes of having her son succeed to her father's throne.
This fascinating pedigree has a wealth of historical information on the O'Malley ancestors. Extensive footnotes provide even more historical context, and additional information from other noted authorities.
