Irish Surname Distribution Study

Using the surname index to Griffith's Valuation it is possible to determine where in Ireland a particular surname is most commonly found. For some names this will pinpoint a particular area, while other names are more widespread. If you already know the county of origin for an ancestor, a distribution study will let you prioritize parish research. If you know a couple was married in a particular county in Ireland, and have the wife's maiden name, then comparing the distribution for both names will show where the couple are most likely to have originated.

TO ORDER A STUDY:

Different types of studies are available:

1. SURNAME FREQUENCY BY COUNTY - gives the number of occurances for a surname in each of the 32 counties in Ireland. Provide the SURNAME. Price $5
2. SURNAME FREQUENCY BY PARISH FOR A COUNTY - gives the number of occurances for a surname in each parish for any one county. Provide the SURNAME and COUNTY Price $10
3. TWO SURNAMES COMPARED WITHIN A COUNTY - gives the number of occurances for two surnames in each parish for any one county. This provides the same info as the $10 Distribution Study for each name, PLUS the two names combined. Provide the TWO SURNAMES and COUNTY Bargain Price $15

Variant Spellings: up to three variant spellings may be included with any surname search -- you must specify which variants you want included.
