Master Marriage Index

This index is a finding aid -- your key to millions of marriage records from various sources. Although it includes marriages from around the world, the majority are from America, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland and Australia. Each individual record includes the full name of the groom, the full name of the bride, the year of marriage, and the source where the record was found. The record does not include a location, but in most cases the name of the reference will indicate where the marriage occured, such as Jefferson County Iowa, marriage records, county courthouse or England, Derbyshire, Chesterfield Parish Register. In a few cases, you will need to locate the source referred to, in order to find the location -- as with records extracted from GEDCOM's or off the World Wide Web. (About 1/2 of all marriages listed here can be found on the Web, but you would need to search thousands of sites to find them all -- and many are in zipped GEDCOM files or other formats invisible to search engines.) Only marriages from 1925 and earlier are included in the index.

Information from the Master Marriage Index is available by surname in the form of eBooks in PDF text format. Each eBook contains records for ONE SPELLING of a surname only. For extremely common names (those for which we have more than 6,000 marriage records) there will be more than one eBook, each eBook covering a particular time period. We have kept the size of these Adobe Acrobat PDF format eBooks down to less than 1.4 megabytes each, so that you can save backup copies on a floppy disk. We deliver the eBook by email only, so be sure your mailbox has room for a large file before ordering.

We have three catagories of surnames: Extremely Common (more than 6,000 records available); Common (1,000 to 5,999 records available) and uncommon (less than 1,000 records available). Extremely common names are listed later on this page. The link below will take you to a page having the common and uncommon names available. If you don't find the name you are looking for, we have fewer than 1,000 marriages in our database for that name -- we will extract all available records for the name (one spelling only) for $25 -- you will receive anywhere from one to 999 records. If there are no records for a surname, you will not be charged.

Pricing: Each eBook costs $7.95, regardless of the number of marriages it contains. If no eBook is yet available (names not listed below or in Common and Uncommon Names Available) we will custom-make an eBook for $25 for the name you choose (one spelling only).
