Dating Portraits - Ornate Imprint

There are a wide variety of ornate imprints used on both CDV's and Cabinet Cards. Most of these occupy almost all of the available space on the back of the card.

Dating:

Ornate patterns of highly varied and elaborate design - 1872-85 for CDV's, continued later on many Cabinet Cards (1872-95?).

Egyptian or Japanese motif - 1881-86

Polychrome designs - 1872-80

Observations:

These imprints need more study, particularly on Cabinet Cards. For now, we present Darrah's outline without modification.
