This carte de visite has the portrait of a seated man, with the back of the chair and some drapes in the otherwise plain background. The card is white, .5mm thick, with rounded corners. On back (illustrated) is the pencil inscription "Rob Lanner", a simple four-line typeset photographer's imprint "W. H. Sherman, Photographer, 385 (Old No. 231) Main St., Milwaukee." and a 2 cent revenue stamp, that has been cancelled with a hand-stamp with the date July 2, 1866 and the photographer's name and address (only partially visible).
