A few postcards have copyright or publication dates printed on them,
either on the picture side, or the stamp side. It is not always clear as
to which event the date applies -- taking the image, or production of the
card -- but it is a good clue when present; at least we know the image can be
no later than the date given. Real photo postcards sometimes
have a photographers name and the date scratched into the negative (the
info appears in black) or painted/written on the negative (the info appears
in white). Here are a few examples of typical copyright and publication
